Kali + Alex

A Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding

Kali and Alex – AKA KALEX WHAT WHAT – had such an OH SO BEAUTIFUL Tuckahoe Plantation wedding on Sunday, October 8th, 2017.

Let me first start off by saying how much I just LOVE these two and their love for each other! When I met them for the first time during their engagement session (you can find that here) we laughed and they basically danced pretty much the whole time! Haha! I am not kidding, go check it out for yourself. It was so fun and funny because we had SO much in common and explored in a way that was so true to who these two are as a couple. Their smiles were nothing short of genuine and both full of the upmost loving kindness and respect for each other. I swear, it had been like we where friends for years because I could already see and understand exactly why these two were so madly in love.

Moving on to their wedding day, I had teasers of what to expect from multiple Google Hangout calls with Kali and Alex themselves. Not to mention, my BFF Amanda who got us together in the first place, was doing all the coordination, planning, and FLORALS too!!! I knew it was going to be SO beautiful, because Kali had SUCH a vision, especially with having been in the wedding industry herself (and also dabbles in photography too). So, I knew she was going to mean BUSINESS and it was going to be such a unique combination of her and Alex, plus all the pretty color used in so many different ways.

Well, you guessed it, I was right! And the rain even held off too!!! It was SO beautiful, and I will let you keep scrolling to see for yourself in a second, but I wanted to touch on another subject on why this day was extra, extra special. The way Kali used touches of her sweet mother, Kim. Someone I never had the pleasure of meeting in person, but had the oh so beautiful feeling of knowing her presence during and all throughout the wedding day itself. You’ll see so many beautiful odes to “Sweet Kim” throughout the blog post when you’re scrolling, that I feel Kali did such a beautiful, beautiful job of capturing so perfectly.

HUGE and special thanks to EVERY single one of the AMAZING vendors, bridal party, family, and friends. You all played so many important rolls in their special day, and I know that it meant so, so much to Kali and Alex both.

Their Love Story

When and where did you both meet?

We met freshman year at JMU! My MOH, Marden, was our matchmaker. On our first date, we talked for over 3 hours, and we were the only 2 students left in the dining hall – I don’t think anyone had the heart to tell us to leave. That’s when we knew we had something special!

When did you know he was the one and vice versa?

We both knew after only one month of dating! And that was almost 7 years ago – crazy!

What’s the one thing you both love each other the most for?

Kali: I love Al’s sense of humor and how he always manages to make me smile, laugh and feel loved, no matter what kind of day I’m having! He feels like home. Al is one of the kindest and most intelligent people I’ve ever met (I’m still trying to convince him to go on “Jeopardy”). He’s always felt like a part of the family, but now it’s official!

Alex: I love Kal’s fierce independence, her capacity for empathy, and her profound sense of self. She loves intensely and dives wholeheartedly into everything she sets her mind to. Plus, she laughs at my jokes.

How did he propose?

It was our 6-year anniversary. 12.15.16. He asked me what type of food I wanted for our celebration dinner and I said Italian! (I thought he was definitely going to propose on my birthday 4 days later so I didn’t suspect anything). We Ubered into Old Town Alexandria and the driver dropped us off at Market Square. It was below freezing outside and I was hoping the restaurant was close by. He kept saying it was right around the corner, (it wasn’t). The trees were decked out with beautiful Christmas lights and there was a tall Christmas tree in the middle of the square. As soon as we walked down the steps, Al got down on one knee. He said, “It’s been an amazing 6 years, Kal. How about 60 more?” I don’t remember the rest, except that I kept repeating, “Is this really happening?” Some passersby took photos of us by the tree and then we practically sprinted to dinner. We enjoyed a romantic, candlelit meal, then our Uber driver dedicated Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” to us on the drive home. What a magical day!
