Katie + Matt
A Wild Dunes Resort Wedding
Katie and Matt were MARRIED on September 16th, 2017 at Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, South Carolina. Talk about BREATHTAKING!!!
Ohhhhhh Katie and Matt!!! Well, first let me start off with Katie. I’ve known her since middle school. This girl. She’s my type A planner (y’all know that’s like MY fav right?!) She has to have every little thing in place. Sounds like…myself haha! A plan? GIMME ALL THE PLANS!!! So I can totally relate to her on that level, so I KNEW that when she contacted me to photograph her wedding, it would be all kinds of on POINT!
On to Matt. When I first met Katie and Matt for their engagement session in NOVA (you can find that here), I honestly didn’t know WHAT to expect. I never met him, and really had no clue one what to expect. What ended up happening, is I got to see Katie so madly in love (and photograph it HEY HEY) and it was just the BEST y’all!!! To see two people who REALLY just have such chemistry and balance each other out was so thrilling to be a part of. He is her other half, that is FOR SURE!
On to the wedding day. Most of y’all know…and if you didn’t know…Katie and Matt’s wedding *ALMOST* got canceled due to Hurricane Irma. Not only was that INCREDIBLY stressful, but what made it even crazier, is a WEEK before the wedding, Katie actually ended having appendicitis and had to have SURGERY to get her appendix out!!! You guys, we can’t make this stuff up!!! Is that not CRAZY?! Never-the-less, Katie kept her head high with the help of her sweet man, and before we all knew it we were standing in front of three beautiful palm trees, the ocean swaying in the background, and they were MARRIED!!!
Their Love Story
When and where did you both meet?
We met at Kegs & Eggs at George Mason University
When did you know he was the one and vice versa?
Katie: Matt and I have only known each other for a week more than we have been dating and it’s always just been the best. Everything just fell into place
Matt: We had just started dating and I contracted Mono. I was feeling awful and living in a Fraternity House. On her 21st birthday she drove an hour to bring me home, settle me in and drive back to hang out with her friends.
What’s the one thing you both love each other the most for?
Katie: Matt is my better half. He always understands me and when I am going a million miles a minute he knows how to calm me down.
Matt: Katie has the most beautiful soul and the kindest heart. She has really taught me compassion for others.
How did he propose?
It was my matron of honor, Mary’s bridal shower. We had just gotten done opening presents and my mom came in and said we had to go. I was taken aback and so confused, but went anyways. In the car she gave me a letter said “Kathryn” and it took us to my neighbor’s house who is like a grandmother to me. At her house, she gave me a letter that said “Anne” and it directed me to go our favorite place to eat, Windmill Bakery. There was one of my best friends from college and she gave me a letter saying “Viar” and that directed me to go to the place where I went to high School. There at school, was Meghan and she gave me a letter that said “Stevens” and that directed me to go to Berry Hill. Berry Hill was the place. Matt got down on one knee and proposed. It was everything and more.
